Hubpages - have newcomers missed the boat ?

As a new arrival at the Hubpages and to ‘blogging’ in general I’m just getting starting with all this article writing business. I’ve started with the aim of writing at least one article per day, hopefully two. These won’t be exclusively for Hubpages as I’ve also signed up with InfoBarrel and Triond so I can get some comparison of the potential and performance from each site. I’ll hope to keep this up for a month and then take stock. I appreciate that one month and 30-60 articles is not going be paying out anything significant but at least it will give me an idea how things might go and whether it’s worth continuing.

There’s one nagging worry in the back of my mind about all this. Having done some reading on various websites about the possibilities of earnings from writing articles for online publication I got the impression that the peak for earnings from this type of exercise has passed and we’re now on the downside of the curve, as it were. Also its seems that a lot, and I don’t know percentages here but I would guess at least 50%, of online articles and blogs are actually about how to make money from articles and blogs...

One of the things I came across within a couple of days of frequenting the Hubpages website was the ‘Success Stories’ page which list details of about 15 Hubbers including an estimate of their earnings. What worries me about this list, what genuinely has me a bit concerned, is that all of these – with the exception of one which doesn’t give a date – show their earnings for last year, 2010. Are there no success stories for 2011 ? How are these successful hubbers doing now in August 2011 - are things still on the up and up or have incomes fallen ? have they stopped completely because it’s no longer worth while ?. It would be great to see this page updated with some recent information.

Given the last few paragraphs it may well be that newcomers will indeed struggle to reach the heady heights of previous years earners, but I suspect it’s probably still worth a try. Remember, it doesn’t cost anything to get started (apart from your time) and you can do things at your own pace. The various reporting tools on the various blogging platforms will soon give you an idea on whether you going to be successful, or not.

So, at least from one newcomer to the scene, sorry I’m late, but – I reckon it’s still worth a shot...

Hi RC...I like what you have to say. Thank you for doing the research I have been too lazy to accomplish. 2-3 hubs a day sounds a bit grinding although kudos for the try! I guess just don't burn out...right? I hope to follow your progress.

I share your concern as well as your enthusiasm relating to online publishing of articles. I am also new to Hubpages and have just recently posted my 2nd article. Although I have been publishing in my own site for over 2 years now.

But I am still hopeful that late may be, we can still catch up if we stick to it. Making money online is difficult in the beginning but with hard work and much luck we may actually hit it.

Make a plan then work your plan. You seem to have done this. Good for you. You have also set a deadline: 30 days. Great! Now refine your goals as to quality as well as quantity. You might like to think in terms of how well you chose a topic and a hub title. Are your hubs of interest to the audience you want to reach? If your interest is earning $$$ then are your topics (and your personal interests) aligned with what your target audience needs (not just wants)?

Once you commit, keep going to the end. But don't burn out. And don't judge your success too soon. Don't start to look at your hub scores or your hits per day. Just keep writing and reading others' hubs. Wait to make judgements at the end of your 30 days.

Cheers, Maralexa up and interesting

I am new to HubPages and also noticed there are a lot of internal articles written on how to make money on HubPages. Good question about how the previous successful hubbers are doing. I am trying to stay on the positive side and thinking that maybe if information is of interest to those both inside and outside of the Hub community, there may be a chance, albeit maybe small, of being successful. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic!
